Statistics

This Term for our new topic in Math my class is learning about statistics,so during Math we put our ideas about statistics into Google presentation,popplet or anything else we can choose to help present what we thought about statistics so I chose a popplet to present what I think statistics is.

Monster University

If you remember as a kid you may have heard of the movie "Monsters Inc" the movie about why monster are in your closet and why they scare you,well now they have finally made the second movie to it a prequel "Monster University" so as usual Mike Wazowski will be in the movie and so will James P Sullivan and it will be about how they went to college to get to Monster Inc because obviously you need a education before you get a job.  

Snow

The Gentle touch as it drift down to his head,

and rest upon it like a soft warm bed.

Soft and pearly white,

it glow in the moon light.

White doesn't make it seem plain,

but as it starts to rain.

It crumbles to the slightest touch,

but doesn't suffer any pain.

Tomorrow is another day,

and the snow will come back to play.

Food/Cultral Art Technology

Every Thursday for Technology year 7&8 and spit up into their group and head off to their Technology category for the first block,the different categories are music,art,science,cultural art and food.

I am cultural art and food technology(they are a combined category) and right now my group is doing food and we have made mussel fritters,scones,cottage pie,rewena bread and pizza.We have learn't how to knead dough properly and how to not over stir,work and cook our food.

For Cultural Art we learnt how to weave flax to make it look like a flower and also practised stripping it and cutting it,after we mastered the skill of making flowers we then made a maori kite.Two people would pair up and work on one and same with the others it took two days to finish one with team work and hard effort.After all kite were finished along with the flax flower we displayed them in our school hall.

Fire

Fire isn't just something for destruction.

Fire can keep your family warm over cold winter night.

Fire isn't something you turn to as a bad things after your anger is in a fight.

Fire is a flower that can bloom into something beautiful when cared for.

Fire is not a weapon of anger.

Fire dances across the wood it burn in the fire place.

And slowly dies down with grace.

My Nephew

My Nephew is a small little mouse but with a strong and brave personality,much like Despereaux the little mouse with a dangerous and brave personality.

But unlike Despereaux and facing huge humans(well sort of) my nephews takes on my dog 2x bigger than himself,climbing to the top of our stools and using all his energy running back and forward from the end of the house.There are time when his baby self comes back and just wants to go to his mummy and stay by her side all the time but it's very rare only if he has been away from her too long.

Even though Despereaux was a brave mouse some feared he might put them in danger but with my nephew we're afraid he might be a little bit too brave and might hurt himself but hasn't been there.

He is a hyper little mouse rushing around everywhere he goes and always has a smile on his face.

Clear & Cloudy

Today at school for skills for adolescents we learnt about the art of listening and if comment made to us are clear or cloudy.

Cloudy Example:
"You are nice"
This is cloudy because it doesn't tell the person why they are nice.

Clear Example:
"You are nice because you always speak kindly to me"
This is clear because the person said why they are nice and the person listening got the message why they are nice.

So after we learnt about it our teacher instructed us to draw our hand on a piece of card and write our name on it.After we were told to go around to each others hands and write something kind about them,and most students in my class thought no one would bother writing something and when they saw people did their self confidence grew more to what people said about them.

Next Term Excitment

Term 2 is almost over and the two week holiday is nearly here and every school term has a specific topic.

So for our next term topic we have "Trash to Treasure" where we take insignificant things and turn it into a treasure and from our topic from this term we decided on making colour coded bins.So we're going to try and have bins given to us from companies or getting cheap bin and then paint them a specific colour for specific waste.Trash to Treasure might become into a day for all students to enjoy and have everyone take part.

Friendship

Someone very wise once said "Best Friends are like four leaf clovers hard to find but lucky to have".

Having Friend are lucky to have and are sometimes hard to find as I just said before but some of you might not agree with me but really it is.When I was younger my friends came and went so to find Best friend was something special for me and maybe even others.

Friends come and go,and you may come and go.

But friends are always there for you when you need them,

and you are always there for them when they need you.

Friendship isn't just a word.

You and your friend are a ship,

and to keep a float you need trust,care and kindness.

Making Life A Bit Too Easy

Washing Machine,Dish Washer and Cars all things that make your life easy ,but the thing is are we making life a bit too easy?

I mean life is hard and it is a nice feeling to sit back and relax,but now we're making things such as a vacuum that can do the cleaning for you all you have to do is press a button and that is it and making a T.V that doesn't need you pressing buttons at all.

You never know making life easier also might make us lazier even for the simplest things.Our future can still be good if we don't let some things like this get to us.

Mother Nature's Changes

Her heart can't stand the pain of our Towers digging into her.

Her Lungs can't bare to breath our toxic smoke that is created from our machines.

Her hands can't seem to feel her soft grass that once lay in them.

Her Ears can't hear her bird chirping only our machinery roars.

And now her can't eye's can't see her forest only one made out of concrete.

The Hunger Games

As you all may already know The Hunger Games Trilogy Books have made the world want to read them and want them.

Most students in my class were given The Hunger Games Book because thanks to Duffy Books a Government program that gives my school and other around New Zealand free books ,we could pick books from a catalogue and most kids picked The Hunger Games due to it hit in the world.

The Hunger Games is a exciting,heart pounding,cliff hanging book that makes you not wanting to stop reading it.(Which makes my mum angry when she tells me to go to sleep)

This Book is about how a 16 year old Katniss that live in District 12 ruled over by the Capitol and 11 other District and each year they hold The Hunger Game where one boy and one girl from each district fight to the death until one left is standing this reminding them about how the Capitol is in control.Never thinking her sister and her never will go there,her sister's name is chosen and Katniss can only take her place.

This book is suitable for people 13+
This is a must read book so buy it,borrow it from a friend or get it at your library you'll be happy you read it after.

Jaffa Experiment

Today for our Matter Of fact topic this term we put one big and three small jaffas into two classes of cold and hot water to see what would happen to them.

P.s Sorry we have no picture from our project we could put on some picture due to some computer problems.

Our Upcoming Documentary

So here we are holding up our story board.

For our topic this term it is "What effects does our rubbish have on the environment?"so three girls from my class and I decided to enter a movie competition called KWN where we can make a movie or documentary.We all decided to make a documentary about the environment and how the littlest thing can make other places harder to live in and how it can also make our school look uninviting.

First we had to send in a storyboard so the we the people get it they will pick the top ten storyboard and send camera's and video recorders to help with the movie,but those that didn't get picked can still send in their movie but using their own equipment.

Here we are again about to send it in.

We spent two week to make and idea for film and to also draw the scenes that we are going to film.Finally on our last two days before entries were closed we made a good copy and handed it in to our teacher.

Aluminium Cans

As you may know my classes topic for this term is "What effects does our rubbish have on the environment?".So we were divided into groups and given a specific topic such as plastic bags,milk bottle,paper,aluminium cans and compost.The group I was in had the topic Aluminium cans and found out facts about it and how it effects the environment. Also every group had to involve a action plan to help our school stop littering and now I hope that you will enjoy my group's presentation.

Just A Little Project Of Mine.

It took me quite a lot of effort mostly because some days I thought that I could really finish it and just left it somewhere in my room.So one day my mum told that if I don't finish it that she'll throw it away,I knew she wouldn't but I didn't want to take my chances.

After I finished it I decided I wanted to put a cover one it,so I cut off three sides of the boxes cover and glued the only one left to the back of the box.I now use this box to store my art supplies and what think are precious to me.

Don't Look Down!

This week for our narrative practise we were given a sentence to use in our story and carry on from it and this was our sentence "I panicked as I looked..." and this is what I wrote.

I strapped myself into the seat and waited for the movement soon to come,people around seemed to have the same feeling but covered with fake excitement.The button was pushed and my feet started to dangle  and the ground underneath me started to disappear,was this really going to be as bad as my sister said it would be?Slowly the people waiting at the bottom started to get smaller and my view of the world started to get bigger,my stomach started to feel like it was hanging in bag waiting to drop.My legs felt like stone and my arms were nailed to my straps.

Finally at the top and the view was amazing sadly I knew I wasn't going to see it any longer but I panicked as I looked at the same time,my train of thought was then interrupted by a boy’s high pitched scream of excitement.

Any moment now.... “Ahhhhhhh!” screamed on the boy.....1....2....3.....The sudden drop made my stomach fly up from out of its bag and into the sky  it was lost and couldn't feel it ,my eye were shut but still seemed that I could see the rushing colour fly up.It quickly came to a stop and my eye were open and could feel the ground again and my stomach.

I stepped off and headed towards my group we went back to the centre of Rainbows End and I headed towards my cousin .

“Just came back from the Fear  Fall.” I said with no expression in my voice.

“ Sweet, you know when I was down here I could hear a screaming girl man felt sorry for what ride she was on.”she answered.

“Really!?”

It was the strangest thing I ever saw....

This week for our practise narrative test we were given a sentence to use in our story and carry on from it,our sentence was "It was the strangest thing I ever saw.."and this is what I wrote.

We all hoped in the back of the trucks boot and waited for the engine to start the sound of the engine made the truck vibrate  under our feet,and the truck moved forward  moving toward the gate.The air turned cool as it rushed past our faces and the hot  air disappeared,here in Samoa everything seemed different back home but also seemed  to be more free.

The truck came to a stop and our excitement  sky rocketed  we were finally here at the pool,but something was different  it embedded  into the concrete and the inside of  it were fishes and smooth rocks and  it was outside and you didn't have to pay to get in .It was the strangest thing I ever saw but still manage to look significant,I dipped my toe into the water and it was cooling the relief of the cold water drained the hot temperature away from me.Slowly we all began to slowly sit down in the shallow part of the pool on a slippery rock,we all began to slide down to the water and swim through the crystal clear water.

We all then took turns jumping off the high concrete walls and diving trying to find Nemo sadly we only found Dory . We all then decided to do pack up and go back to my Uncle’s and have some lunch,when we got back we all relaxed in the shade and  played with  my uncle’s puppies .It was a long day but a fun day that I never want to forget.

Flying Carpet Narrative

For my class's homework this week we had to write a narrative based on a picture with a flying carpet on it,this also was to give us some practise for our writing assessment we had on Thursday.

So hope you enjoy reading my story.

FLYING CARPET

I entered through the door of what was going to become my new room and I could no longer hold the heavy bow a carried up the stair so a put it down on the floor the room was bare and plain but the only thing in it was a colourful carpet that seemed to have lost its beauty due to a lot of dust,I ignored the carpet and walked towards the closet to start putting my stuff in it.As soon I was done unpacking something caught the corner of my eye I looked to see what it was it was in the far right corner of the closet,I picked it up it was a clear jar with what seemed to be more dust inside of it maybe the person who once lived here was obsessed with it.With the jar safely in my hand I was just about to open it when I was interrupted by the sound of my mum’s voice call from down stairs.

“Renee come and help bring all the dining room chairs please I really need your help!”she called.

“Okay mum!”I replied back.

I rushed down and accidentally dropped all the dust over the carpet but I had no time to clean it up I knew my mum will grow impatient of me so I left it.

“Thanks sweetie for the help now you can go and finish pack while I make something to eat.”mum said.

“Okay mum.”I said.

While my mum wasn't looking I quickly grabbed the broom so she wouldn't grow suspicious of me and quickly ran up to my room,I shut the door behind me and took a deep breath and turned around to see the mess I made.

My body froze and my mouth dropped along with the broom in my hand I couldn't believe what I was seeing,it was just floating there no string no nothing making it float I picked up the shattered pieces of glass on the floor and realised what it had once contained.

My carpet was floating and it was that magical dust that did it.

I swept away the glass and then I step onto the carpet and to my surprise it held me quite nicely.

“Go!”I said.

Waiting for it to take me flying around my room but nothing happened.

“Up,up and away!”I shouted.

But still nothing happened so pulled the front of the carpet toward of me for I was frustrated,then the carpet rushed forward and slammed me into the wall.I quickly got up and rushed to my door slightly dizzy to see if my mum or dad came to see what happened, thankfully my mum just asked what happened so I just told her I dropped something.

The next day my mum went left me at home just to do some grocery shopping so I decided to take another spin on the carpet around the house.I gently hop on it and stirred it out of my room down the stairs,I was floating everywhere in the house and everything was fine.All of a sudden the carpet went ballistic and started flying everywhere I quickly took hold and felt my legs being flung back,and just to make matters worse my mum entered through the door.

“What is that?”she screamed.

“I am so sorry mum.”I screamed.

“This all happened because some stupid dust...”

The dust I need to take it out of the carpet.

“Mum go get the vacuum and turn it on.”I shouted.

“Why?”she questioned.

“Just do it!”I screamed.

My mum got the vacuum and turned it on all I had to do was find a way to stop it.

“Okay mum pick up one huge rock and throw it on top of the carpet when I come your way.”I instructed.

I stirred the carpet towards my mum.

“Okay one,two,three.”

I quickly jumped off the carpet onto the floor and the carpet was under the stone I quickly got the vacuum and  cleaned the dust out of it then removed the rock,the carpet was back to normal and huge sigh of relief came to me but disappeared when I saw my mum’s face.

“You better tell me what happened and get this place cleaned up or you grounded!”she yelled.

“Mum I would rather much better be grounded.”

My Narrative

For our homework this week my class and I had to write a narrative based on a picture with a tiger in a bathroom and have to have a Title,Orientation,Problem and Solution(T.O.P.S).

Can I Please Have One?

He was at the zoo and just passing animal he had always loved but never could have,then all of a sudden there she was the most beautiful creature he have ever seen a tiger with liquorice black stripes painted across it’s warm orange coloured fur.

“ Dad can I have a tiger please!” begged Samuel

“No son because 1 we don’t have a place to keep it and 2 tigers are dangerous.”replied his dad .

“awww!”sigh Samuel.

Still disappointed  Samuel went back home and had dinner .

“Enjoying your dinner sweetie?”asked his mum.

“Would have enjoyed it more if I had a tiger with me.”matter Samuel.

“What did he say honey?”said his mum

“He’s just being a grumpy pant because I said he couldn't have a tiger.” spoke his dad

“Its okay honey we can get you a guinea pig.”reasoned his mum.

“ I DON’T WANT A GUINEA PIG I WANT A TIGER!”screamed Samuel.

Then stormed off to his room and off to bed.Morning came and the sun was slowly sipped through the curtains and Samuel got up sluggishly and dragged his feet across the floor over to his bathroom.As he turned around  instantly he saw bulging big green eyes and razor sharp teeth.

“Ahhhhhhhh!”He screamed.

Samuel turned around and shut the door tight and raced down stairs.

“ Good morning son you’re awak.... my gosh boy you soiled yourself what happened?”questioned his dad.

“Dad I don’t want a tiger any more.”

How To Cross The Road

You need: Your parent or caregiver to help assisted you in this Task.

What you need to do:

First you: Stop behind the the curb on the side of the road(So the cars don't get close to you when passing).

Second you:Take hold of parents or caregiver hand.

Then you: Look right and left for any cars to make sure it safe to cross.

Finally you: Walk across the road still look right and left and still holding parent or caregivers hand.

You have now crossed  the road safely.

My Autobiography

This week I presented my autobiography in front of my class.There are some personal information that I have deleted because I am  being cyber smart.

Who Am I ?

Malo ni and Bula vinaka my name is Salome it come from the bible,but even though my mum named me Salome she meant to name me after my great great grandmother.

I am Fijian,Tokelauan and from American Samoa,my family mostly revolve around my Fijian and Tokelauan not so much Samoan life. I'm not a speaker of my language but do understand a little Tokelauan,being Fijian meant going to church every Sunday and having bible study every Saturday so Christianity is a big part of my life and family.

I’ll be honest I don’t like public speaking  but I do like doing art and reading

Education History

I started going to kindergarten at the age of two years old to four years old.In 2005 I started at my first school which was Glendowie Primary and stayed there for a year and then went to St Heliers with my brother and sister the next year.I was in St Heliers from 2006 to 2011 and then came here to Tamaki Primary with my cousin.

Most memorable moments

The memorable moments in my life was when I went to Tokelau and saw the house my mum grew up in and the house my grandpa built,the other memorable moment was going to Fiji to meet all my first cousins and see the house my dad grew up in too.  

Aspirations

My aspiration that I want to be is to become a surgeon the reason for this is because I want to help people and not just some people I want to help people from the pacific islands who need help in their health.

Inspirations

My most inspiring person is my mum because she helped figure out what I want to be when I'm older.She really didn't tell me become a doctor she more showed me,my mum is a nurse so when she tells me stories of how things work as a nurse and how some things can be hard for the people she helps.So this made badly wanted to become a doctor to make a better future for pacific people who need a good doctor.
